A COLOUR GUIDE TO POLARISED LENSES

In this section we will take an in depth look at the effect colour plays in varying angling situations. We will discuss topics such as "which colour polarised lens is best for my fishing?" alongside an advanced technical breakdown on what colour polarised lenses are available. If you are looking for a general guide to "how polarised sunglasses work?" please see the video at the bottom of this page. The sliders below will allow you to quickly and easily see the effects of each colour lens and allow you to make a decision on which colour polarised lens is right for your fishing. LENS TECHNOLOGY GUIDE

Now we have looked at the role colour plays, we can explore in more depth our lens technologies.

Starting with our SWITCH Technology. These photochromic lenses adapt to varying light levels, in short meaning if it is sunny the lens will darken, if it is cloudy the lens will lighten providing optimum viewing no matter what the weather.

Our TRIPLE X lenses are our top of the range sunglass lens. A patented Ultra Slim Injection process to ensure high optical precision, extreme clarity & paramount protection. eXtra Clarity, eXtra Definition & eXtra Protection.

Fortis XBLOK Technology is a mirrored surface coating offering additional (or eXtra) glare block. Available in a range of colours, each designed to filter out certain colours within the light spectrum to give maximum performance in any condition. For more detail on all features please see the bottom of the page.

HOW DO POLARISED LENSES WORK?

Light reflected from surfaces such as water, snow or other smooth surfaces is polarised and spreads only as horizontal and vertical waves. This means that, instead of light being scattered in all directions in more usual ways, reflected light generally travels in a more horizontally oriented direction. This creates an annoying and sometimes dangerous intensity of light that we experience as glare.

Fortis Eyewear polarised lenses contain a special filter that blocks this type of intense reflected light, reducing glare. The filter is created by heating and stretching a film over the lens resulting in the molecules becoming arranged in parallel fibres.

Fortis Eyewear polarised lenses are made from a material called Tri-Acetate Cellulose or TAC. Polarised TAC lenses have many advantages including high abrasion resistance, in fact one of the highest abrasion/scratch resistance of any optical plastic. Our TAC lenses provides very little distortion in fact less than any polycarbonate lenses. TAC is more lightweight and thinner than glass making it comfortable to wear all day. Other high performance features of our lenses include being more impact resistant than glass and more scratch resistant than polycarbonate.

What is polarisation?

Fortis Eyewear offer a range of different lens colours, including Brown, Amber & Grey polarised lens colours. Each has advantages for varying situations.

Brown 247 - a lens that has substantial contrast definition. These are perfect for picking out objects in water and why the majority of our lenses utilise this colour. They are great for low to bright light conditions.

Amber AMPM - a lens that has unrivalled contrast definition. Amber lenses are perfect for low light conditions i.e. the British weather! These lenses are guaranteed to brighten up your day.

Green - Superb lens for 'natural vision' as much of the blue light is absorbed. comfortable for long periods.

Grey - reduces the light intensity without affecting the colour spectrum. Relatively neutral and clear, which is why it is suitable for long-term wearing without putting an excessive load on the eye. Considered a great choice for fishermen in medium to bright light conditions.

Our Triple X Lenses use a patented Ultra Slim Injection process to ensure high optical precision, extreme clarity & paramount protection

Triple X lenses are designed to provide:
eXtra Clarity
eXtra Definition
eXtra Protection

The eXtra Clarity is achieved through our ultra thin lenses, whilst maintaining high optical precision. The thinner the lens, the less distortion! Add to this the increased frame height for an endless field of vision.

The eXtra Definition is achieved through our carefully selected contrast enhancement colours. Our injection process allows us to refine the lens colours, helping eliminate blue light aiding a more “natural vision”.

The eXtra Protection – Paramount protection – The prime function of total protection against UV A, B and C is guaranteed.

This brand new lenses technology from Fortis Eyewear allows the lenses to darken or lighten depending on the weather conditions, so should it be bright the lens will darken or should it be dark the lens will lighten allowing the wearer optimum viewing at all times and in any condition. This is ultimately like having two pairs of glasses in one!

Previously customers were torn between the Wraps with AMPM (amber) lenses and the Wraps with 247 (brown) lenses. These lenses "switch" between a filter category 2 & a filter category 3.

Our XBlok Technology is a mirrored surface coating offering additional (or eXtra) glare block. Available in a range of colours, each designed to filter out certain colours within the light spectrum to give maximum performance in any condition.

Gold XBlok - Offers the highest contrast. Ideal for spotting dark shapes in deep clear water.
Blue XBlok - Provides superior contrast in bright sunlight.
Fire XBlok - Superb all round protection & glare block.

Used in our Hawkbill collection, cellulose acetate is a plant-based plastic made from wood fibres & natural cotton. This hypoallergenic acetate is strong, lightweight and fairly flexible. Cellulose acetate also has the widest range for transparency with rich colours and finishes.

Cellulose acetate is a non-petroleum based plastic. While petroleum products can be more expensive and harmful to the environment, acetate is made from renewable materials. Our Hawkbill sunglasses are made by forming layers of cellulose acetate plastic into large blocks. They are then lovingly sliced into individual pieces, hand polished and finally assembled into a frame. Packed in the UK by our quality control team to ensure every pair is perfect.

To ensure you get the very best from your polarised fishing sunglasses it is important to maintain their life by cleaning the lenses with the micro fibre cleaning cloth provided (Please note: cleaning cloth not provided with Wraps model). Simply apply a light pressure, rubbing in a circular motion with the cleaning cloth to remove any unwanted grease or smears.
